Axfood applies its own control programme for both its retail and wholesale operations, in order to protect our customers’ right to enjoy safe food.
Control programme approved by the Swedish National Food Agency
In collaboration with bodies such as the Swedish Grocers’ Federation, Axfood has worked to draw up industry guidelines for the control programme “Safe food in your store”, as approved by the Swedish National Food Agency. The control programme involves stores carrying out certain daily checks, arrival checks and temperature checks at department level. Clear procedures are detailed for storage, labelling, temperature control and the handling of prepacked and unpackaged food in order to maintain good food hygiene.
External checks
Axfood also has a group-wide agreement with a food safety company that visits each of our wholly owned stores four times per year. On the visits, microbiological samples are taken and the store’s in-house checking procedures are reviewed.
Food safety is also an important aspect of the concept monitoring that is carried out twice a year in each store.
Axfood’s stores meet the criteria for a food licence
The municipality’s environmental and health departments conduct inspections of wholesale and retail operations. These inspections involve checks that the business meets the legal requirements for a food licence.
